Biography: Karl Burris served as a Kansas law enforcement officer for over thirty years,?retiring as a captain with the Lenexa Police Department in 2017. In addition to serving as a commander in the Investigations and Patrol Divisions, he supervised or commanded the Directed Patrol, Tactical, K-9, and Training Units.? Captain Burris was a supervisor and commander on the Johnson County Officer Involved Shooting Investigation Team, tasked with investigating officer-involved shootings in a county with approximately nineteen law enforcement agencies and over one thousand sworn officers. He was also a lead officer for the Kansas City Metropolitan Major Case Squad (Metro Squad).?After retirement, Karl worked for the Kansas Department for Children and Families as a Special Investigator for the Office of the General Counsel.??He has recently returned to police work, this time in Missouri. Karl is currently a captain with the Gladstone, MO Police Department, with one of his responsibilities being investigations. He has taught both regionally and nationally on a variety of police related topics.
