No image available Biography: Derek Ferguson has worked in the aircraft certification field for 35 years. He has extensive experience managing aircraft and engine certification projects; developing, interpreting and applying airworthiness regulations, standards and guidance; assessing and developing strategies to mitigate safety risk; conducting regulatory audits, and approving the design assurance and self-audit programs of air carriers and aerospace manufacturers and managing professional staff. He has detailed knowledge of Canadian and international airworthiness regulations, standards and guidance, continuing airworthiness regulatory programs, the Canadian and international design approval delegation system, along with the certification process for aeronautical products. Mr. Ferguson currently works for Amtek Engineering Services, Ltd. in Ottawa, Ontario, serving as a Consultant to the Directorate of Technical Airworthiness and Engineering Support for the Canadian Department of Defence. He worked for Transport Canada for 30 years, beginning as an Airworthiness Engineer in 1985, and assuming increasingly more responsible positions including Senior Project Manager, Superintendent of the Delegations Section, Chief of the Delegations and Quality Division and Chief of Continuing Airworthiness (COS). Mr. Ferguson holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manitoba.
