Course detail: First Annual Crisis Response and Resource Symposium

This day-and-a-half event provides allied professionals directly involved with responding and delivering crisis services an opportunity to share knowledge, ideas, and support. Participants will hear about the statewide tools and resources essential to responding, connecting, and caring for community members in crisis.

Core Competency:
  • Participants will support their wellness and resilience with skills learned in the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional areas required by law enforcement officers.

Topics include:
  • Mental Illness Recognition - Medication and Treatment Options - presented by Kendra Wolff ARPN/NP
  • The services provided in jail. An overview for law enforcement and the community.- presented by Chrissy Rivers, LSCSW
  • Educational Perspective on Brain-based De-Escalation - presented by Megan Yoder, Director of Reno County Learning Center 
  • Homeless Outreach Team - presented by Officer Nathan Schwiethale, Wichita Police Department
  • Mental Health in Kansas: Laws and Liabilities - Kevin Salzman, Ford County Attorney
  • Caring for Communities through Co-Response- Jessica Murphy, LMSW, Deputy Division Director, Emergency Services
  • "Ernie and Joe Crisis Cops" presentation and discussion with Joe Smarro, formerly with San Antonio Police Department
  • Panel Discussion with CIT Councils from across the state of Kansas
A catered lunch will be provided on Wednesday, March 22nd.
