Course detail: Precision Driving and Pursuit Response

Students who complete this course will review and demonstrate precision driving techniques to successfully complete high risk driving maneuvers that could help prevent a police vehicle crash. Today's police vehicles are equipped with technology much different than those in the past, resulting in different operator knowledge and control. The afternoon will include making decisions in high risk emergency driving events during mock pursuits using Kansas Law as a guide. Primary and secondary unit responsibilities will be identified along with radio traffic and operation. The student will be exposed to stressors and obstacles a driver can encounter in emergency response. The class will debrief regarding how to drive with due regard all the while protecting the community and citizens of Kansas.

*NOTE: Student(s) must provide patrol vehicles for this course. Vehicles need to be in good operating conditions (engine, transmission, tires). No vans or higher center of gravity vehicles allowed for the course. If you have a question on whether your department vehicle will meet the requirements, please contact Sr. Instructor Josh White.
