Course detail: Modern Policing Interviews: Removing Barriers through Active Listening
Course Description:
Active listening is one of the most important skills you can have in your professional and personal life. True, effective communication is about more than two or more people talking together. Listening and understanding the underlying meaning (not just the spoken words) requires specific skills, attention and practice. Active listening encompasses the best of communication, including listening to what others are saying, processing the information, and responding to it to clarify and elicit more information.
This course will focus on providing law enforcement officers the opportunity to expand their knowledge of active listening. Participants will receive multiple opportunities to practice active listening through a variety of practical activities.
This training meets continuing education requirements for those who have trained as Forensic Interviewers in the state of Kansas through the Child Advocacy Center.
Core Competencies:
- Participants will be able to decide upon prescribed courses of action or techniques that will provide a greater level of safety in a variety of environments, events and situations.
- Participants will exhibit fairness in policing while giving people a voice and performing law enforcement duties with impartiality and the necessary level of transparency to sustain and strengthen public trust.
