Course detail: Emerging Trends and Topics Surrounding Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence is consistently one of the most frequent calls for service for law enforcement. These calls are often confusing and difficult to investigate as well as extraordinarily dangerous. Newest research ties domestic violence perpetrators to many other violent crimes. Nearly all active shooters and other mass murders have a history of violence towards their intimate partners.

This training effort has been funded through the Improving Criminal Justice Responses (ICJR) Grant by the Office on Violence Against Women, U.S. Department of Justice. The Governor's Advisory Council on Domestic and Sexual Violence Response developed discipline-specific domestic and sexual violence training for professionals in the criminal justice system with the purpose of creating a consistent coordinated response to victims of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.

The focus will on offender accountability with the understanding that stronger domestic violence investigations and prosecutions may impact future criminal behavior and save lives.
