Course detail: Strangulation and Advanced Domestic Violence Investigations

Course Description:
Domestic violence crimes remain a frequent call that officers and detectives across the country must respond to and investigate. This course provides investigators with information on how to thoroughly investigate these crimes, to include strangulation, with practical tips that can be implemented and used immediately. This course is an advanced class with an assumption that participants have prior knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence.

Core Competencies:
  • Participants will employ best practices as they investigate any crime from its beginning to its eventual disposition; either as an individual, or as part of an investigatory team.
Course Objectives:
  • Identify strangulation  
  • Recognize the difference between a petechia and subconjunctival hemorrhage 
  • Understand the use of  alternative light  
  • Learn investigative steps and tools 
  • Determine steps if your suspect or victim is a cop
  • Acquire knowledge on effects of trauma on victim presentation

Who Should Attend:
  • Law Enforcement with prior knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence.
