Course: Inquiry Based Science using Kansas Agroecosystems

This course covers the basics of inquiry-based agriculture education pedagogy, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), the identification of common crops in Kansas, with an emphasis on resources for hands-on teaching using the Kansas Corn kits for classrooms and the Kansas Soybean. Participants will demonstrate the ability to apply NGSS science standards to agriculture ecosystems in science education.

Learning Objectives:

1. Students will demonstrate an understanding of using inquiry-based practices with agriculture in lesson plan design.

2. Students will demonstrate the use of Kansas crops in the plant life cycle and explore interactions with insect pests and pollinators.

3. Students will identify the common parts of the corn and soybean plant and how insects modify key plant structures and functions.

Inquiry Based Science using Kansas Agroecosystems introduces you to content through modules. Content requires approximately 15 to 20 hours to complete. Learning assessment will be conducted through learning activities. To successfully complete the microcredential and earn a digital badge, you must achieve a minimum passing score of 80%.
