Course: Recertification in Clinical Nutrition

This continuing education course is intended for chiropractic physicians in the State of Idaho as part of the recertification requirements for the Clinical Nutrition Certification through the state of Idaho Board of Chiropractic Physicians. This continuing education course may also be beneficial for the continuing education needs of chiropractic physicians in the states of Oregon, Utah, and Oklahoma where broad scopes of practice exist. This course is offered by the Professional Development Academy, LLC.  Laurence V. Hicks, ND, DC, DO is the instructor. Questions about the course should be directed to Dr. Laurence Hicks. Kansas State University will award 12 continuing education hours for successful completion of course requirements.

The recertification course will be administered by electronic correspondence and online. The course will cover pertinent safety and regulatory issues in relation to administering prescription (IV nutrient) drug products. It will be divided up to cover 12 hours of lecture-equivalent materials for those licensees under the chapter who are currently certified in clinical nutrition.

Clock Hour 1: Regulatory Requirements and Safety Concerns and Vitamin A Pharmacology
Clock Hour 2: Vitamin B Complex, Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) and Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)
Clock Hour 3: Vitamin B3 (Niacin), Vitamin B5 (Dexpanthenol) and Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)
Clock Hour 4: Vitamin B9 (Folate), Vitamin B12 (Cobalamine) and Vitamin C (Ascorbate)
Clock Hour 5: Ammonium Molybdate and Calcium
Clock Hour 6: Chromium, Copper and Iodine
Clock Hour 7: Magnesium and Manganese
Clock Hour 8: Potassium and Sodium
Clock Hour 9: Selenium and Zinc
Clock Hour 10: Lactated Ringers and Plasma Lyte
Clock Hour 11: Dextrose, Saline and Sterile Water
Clock Hour 12: Epinephrine and Oxygen for Use During An Emergency or Allergic Reaction

Course access information will be sent via email from Ben Hicks, instructor.  A final examination will be administered prior to completing recertification.

Continuing Education hours are not awarded for academic credit.  Continuing education requirements vary from state to state and by profession.  It is the responsibility of individuals earning K-State continuing education hours to verify with their licensing or accrediting body that the hours will be accepted.  Kansas State University is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
