Biography: My name is Angela Flaherty, and I bring over 31 years of experience as an educator with a deep passion for inclusive learning and the arts. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English Education with a minor in Dance Education from Illinois State University. I began my teaching career at Oswego High School, where I taught freshman and sophomore English from 1993 to 1999. In 2005, I founded Dance With Flair, a studio dedicated to providing a welcoming and expressive space for dancers of all abilities. For 15 years, the studio served the Oswego community, offering classes that emphasized both technique and creativity. Notably, I developed a specialized program for children and adults with special needs, integrating movement with joy and accessibility. My commitment to inclusive education extends beyond the studio. For over 14 years, I have been actively involved with the Kendall County Special Olympics (KCSO), supporting athletes in their pursuit of excellence and community. As a mother of four adult children, I have a personal connection to the world of special needs. My third child, Liam, is 22 years old and is on the autism spectrum, deaf (utilizing a cochlear implant), and has Tourette's Syndrome. His journey has profoundly influenced my perspective and dedication to lifelong learning opportunities for individuals with diverse needs.I believe that education doesn't end at 22. Through themed camps and workshops, I strive to create environments where participants can continue to grow, move, and learn in engaging and meaningful ways.Let me know if you'd like to tailor this bio further for specific platforms or audiences! |
