No image available Biography: Michael Lewellen currently performs as Principal Horn of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, a position he has held since 1987. In the 2003-2004 season he served as Acting Associate Principal Horn of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Cincinnati Pops. During that time, Mr. Lewellen participated in that organization's many recordings on the Telarc label and its highly successful tour of Japan. Prior to assuming his post in Fort Wayne, Michael held the position of Guest Solo Horn with the Finnish National Opera Orchestra in Helsinki, Finland. Additionally, he has been engaged to perform and record with many of our country's finest orchestras. Notably these ensembles are The Cleveland Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. With these orchestras, Michael has recorded for the London/Decca, Erato, Telarc and Exton labels.Since 1999, Michael Lewellen has appeared every summer as a member of the prestigious Grand Teton Music Festival in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Additional festival appearances include Blossom, the Festival Institute at Round Top and the Colorado Music Festival.As a horn soloist, Mr. Lewellen has appeared in numerous performances with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. He has performed the solo horn repertoire of Mozart, Richard Strauss, Haydn and Britten, all with critical acclaim.A dedicated teacher with more than thirty years of experience, Michael Lewellen serves as Continuing Lecturer in Horn at Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne. Previous teaching appointments included Goshen College, Huntington University, Grace College and The Cleveland Institute of Music Preparatory Department.Mr. Lewellen is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music where he was a student of Richard Solis. Additional studies have been with Dale Clevenger and Arnold Jacobs.
