Who Should Attend?
Issues of inequality due to joblessness and low income can affect every aspect of one's life and create disparity and the inability to become self-sufficient.
These sessions are designed for both families and organizations dealing with these clients, and will provide essential information to participants to be used as a road map for finding assistance.


This course is presented in conjunction with Fort Wayne Housing Authority and their Resident Services Resource Center.





Session Topics:
This class will give participants an overview of the issues that affect the ability of low income residents to receive low cost medical and dental care. Gain informative knowledge about wellness and insurance programs that can help those with low incomes to achieve a better quality of life.

This class will provide participants an overview of low cost healthcare insurance options, and medical, dental and mental health services in our community. Emphasis is also placed on wellness activities and recreational programs that encourage residents to achieve a healthier lifestyle.


This course will also give participants an overview of the issues that affect the ability of low income residents to eat healthy and nutritious meals in the midst of a vast food desert. Learn about valuable resources including urban gardening projects and coupon clubs.

Partner organizations include HealthVisions of Fort Wayne, Matthew 25, Neighborhood Health Clinic, Community Initiative by the St. Joseph Community Health Foundation, Parkview LIVE, and local hospitals and community nursing programs.


Instructor Denise Porter is currently the Coordinator for Fort Wayne Housing Authority's Resident Services Resource Center. As such, she is responsible on a daily basis to connect residents and others to the various programs or services in our community that can help low income residents become more self-sufficient and become free from governmental assistance programs. Denise has over 25 years of experience in faith-based and community organizations, businesses, media and the Office of the Mayor of the City of Fort Wayne. This experience gives her a unique perspective to guide others to the best community resources available.
