THE RIGHT TO EFFECTIVE TREATMENT AND SKINNER'S THE ETHICS OF HELPING PEOPLE - BEHP1238 Discusses B.F. Skinner's 1976 article in The Humanist titled "The Ethics of Helping People," specifically the general ethical stance of behavior analysts regarding the taking care of a person versus working toward independence and autonomy. Explores the seminal work, "The Right to Effective Treatment," published 12 years later, which updated and expanded many of the same ideas.

Understanding the Why Behind the Rule: Ethical Frameworks and Practice Guidelines - BEHP1240 Discusses that although the rules and ethical guidelines for professional decision-making are often interpreted in black-and-white absolutes, the thinking process behind the practice guidelines is actually much more nuanced. Explores the necessity for an understanding of the why behind a particular guideline to arrive at truly ethical conclusions. Includes guidance through common ethical frameworks and uses examples from the everyday work of a behavior analyst.

Certificate Programs

The Organizational Behavior Management (OBM) Certificate program has been improved based on the demand for a more hands-on learning experience. Participants in our OBM Certificate program will learn the essentials of OBM and what learning in the workplace is all about; they will develop the skills necessary to design, implement and evaluate an OBM project. Participants will implement a project identified by their sponsoring organization (where they work), resulting in a customized, targeted project to support their organizational needs.
