Circuit board components forming padlock

This course provides students with a complete capability to gain the knowledge and practical skills to achieve CAAS Unmanned Aircraft Pilot License (UAPL). Along with an overview and understanding of the dynamics, issues, and organizations that comprise Unmanned Aircraft (UA), the course creates the necessary knowledge, concepts and practical flight skills necessary to safely operate a UA. The course is designed to provide students with a solid education on the critical components of UA, air navigation, safety and regulatory compliance. Final focus covers human factors, basic accident prevention, risk management and the roles of various maintenance tasks in safe operations.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Define what is an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) and Unmanned Aircraft (UA)
  • Explain the various applications of UAS (aerial photography/videography, surveillance, etc.)
  • Identify UA components of different categories and describe its functions and describe major systems of UA and how the systems are integrated with each other
  • Recognize and identify failed or damaged components and understand equipment manufacturer (OEM) repair guidelines
  • Describe UAS C2 link operations, radio-line-of-sight and the loss link causes
  • Understand the principles of flight, basic aerodynamics, and the applications for control of motion
  • Develop the knowledge skills to operate within Air Law compliance including permits, training, licenses, and non-compliance penalties
  • Obtain the ability to navigate UA, knowledge of UA navigation systems and meteorological concepts to determine the implications of weather or UA operations
  • Define, assess, and manage the major human factor topics in UA operations
  • Develop the knowledge and operational skills associated with Safety Operations including risk and hazard management, maintenance, and emergency procedures
