Course Detail: SUA-1002 - Unmanned Aircraft Pilot License

Overview

This course provides students with a complete capability to gain the knowledge and practical skills to achieve CAAS Unmanned Aircraft Pilot License (UAPL). Along with an overview and understanding of the dynamics, issues, and organizations that comprise Unmanned Aircraft (UA), the course creates the necessary knowledge, concepts and practical flight skills necessary to safely operate a UA. The course is designed to provide students with a solid education on the critical components of UA, air navigation, safety and regulatory compliance. Final focus covers human factors, basic accident prevention, risk management and the roles of various maintenance tasks in safe operations.

This course is intended for aviation working professionals at airlines, airports, state offices or regulatory bodies, aviation consultancies and those performing operational roles such as aircraft repair, maintenance, and overhaul. We also encourage anyone with a passion for flight to join us!

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Define what is an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) and Unmanned Aircraft (UA)
  2. Explain the various applications of UAS (aerial photography/videography, surveillance, etc.)
  3. Identify UA components of different categories and describe its functions and describe major systems of UA and how the systems are integrated with each other
  4. Recognize and identify failed or damaged components and understand equipment manufacturer (OEM) repair guidelines
  5. Describe UAS C2 link operations, radio-line-of-sight and the loss link causes
  6. Understand the principles of flight, basic aerodynamics, and the applications for control of motion
  7. Develop the knowledge skills to operate within Air Law compliance including permits, training, licenses, and non-compliance penalties
  8. Obtain the ability to navigate UA, knowledge of UA navigation systems and meteorological concepts to determine the implications of weather or UA operations
  9. Define, assess, and manage the major human factor topics in UA operations
  10. Develop the knowledge and operational skills associated with Safety Operations including risk and hazard management, maintenance, and emergency procedures
  11. Achieve practical flight capability with the general of flight check, specific flight maneuvers, mission planning and emergency procedures

Schedule: Ground School will take place on 21-22 Jul from 0830 to 1230 (GMT +8), followed by simulator training from 1300 to 1600 (GMT +8). Flying will take place from 23 to 25 Jul from 0830 to 1230 (GMT +8). Make-up flying and exams are scheduled for Saturdays starting 26 Jul and running through 26 Sep from 0830 to 1230 (GMT +8) or by appointment.

Registration and Course Fees:
Full payment is required at the time of registration to secure your seat in an ERAU Professional Education & Training course.

Changes to Your Enrollment:
We understand that plans can change! If you need to withdraw from a course, you'll receive a full refund (100%) as long as you notify us at least ten (10) working days before the start of the course. Requests to withdraw made after this deadline are not eligible for any refund; however, a one-time transfer to the next session may be possible. Requests to withdraw should be sent by 
email.

Class Cancellations:
In the rare case that a course has low enrollment and needs to be canceled, we'll do our best to let you know as soon as possible. If this happens, you'll receive a full refund (100%) or can transfer to the next session or similar course.
