Course Detail: SUAS-2100 - Basic Multirotor Flight Training [SUAS 2100]

Overview

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is known throughout the world as the gold-standard for flight training; drones are no exception. This sUAS Basic Flight Course provides basic flight training for multirotor drones with an emphasis on professional aviation standards, safety, and applications. Students will use simulation and their personal multirotor drone to complete assignments including basic and advanced maneuvers, photography and videography, and photogrammetry. This course includes a 3 month student license of Pix4D Mapper.

In this course students are required to have:

  • FAA (or country equivalent) commercial sUAS certificate (Part 107 RPC)
  • FAA (or country equivalent) commercially registered multirotor aircraft
  • Windows computer capable of running Pix4D Mapper and the ERAU sUAS simulator
  • Gaming controller such as the Logitech F310
  • Legal and safe area to perform flight training

This course awards 4 Continuing Education Units (CEU) upon completion.

Who Should Attend?

Beginners to expert pilots who are Part 107 certified (or country equivalent) with a desire to learn the professional best practices of the aviation community, as applied to multirotor drones, are encouraged to enroll.

  • Checklist procedures
  • Basic maneuvers
  • Advanced maneuvers
  • Emergency procedures
  • Photography and videography
  • Autonomous data collection
  • Photogrammetry using Pix4D Mapper
  • Practical flight examination

Course Information

This is an online asynchronous instructor facilitated course with weekly modules and assignments, but no scheduled meeting times. Students should plan to spend approximately 10-15 hours per week working through the course depending on flight experience and proficiency. Coursework is web-based and requires additional software and a reliable internet connection. All courses open 48 business hours in advance of each start date, and must be completed by their scheduled end dates. Digital certificates are available upon successful completion of individual courses. Printed certificates are mailed only upon completion of a full certificate program.
