This course provides Airport Wildlife Operators an overview of wildlife hazard management strategies, effective tools and operational techniques. The course includes practical examples, Case Studies and hands-on using currently deployed systems in airports.

    Upon completion of this course, the participants will:

    • Describe the history of bird strikes and the associated wildlife hazard management at airports
    • Define the roles and responsibilities of wildlife hazard management team in the framework at airports
    • Define the basics of wildlife identification at airports, including species-specific behavioral patterns of birds
    • Identify the varied attractants at an aerodrome
    • Operate in accordance with general protocols used in bird strike reporting (ICAO standards & requirements)
    • Adopt data collection methods and protocols for wildlife within airports
    • Apply operational techniques for dealing with wildlife within airports
    • Characterize the future technological advancements of airport wildlife hazard management.

    • History of bird strikes, airport wildlife hazard management, and related trends
    • Role of each member of the airport wildlife team
    • Overview of Mastermark's wildlife framework (Aerodrome wildlife 360)
    • Brief breakdown of the Wildlife Hazard Assessment (WHA) and Wildlife Hazard Management Program (WHMP)
    • Basic wildlife identification techniques, with a focus on bird species found in South East Asia
    • General motivations and behavior patterns of wildlife, with a focus on bird species and migratory patterns in South East Asia
    • Type of habitats within aerodromes and their potential for attracting wildlife
    • Standard wildlife strike reporting protocols according to ICAO standards
    • Guidelines for how data should be collected under a Wildlife Hazard Assessment
    • Introduction to BIRD Tab as an example of a wildlife hazard management data collection system
    • In-depth look into the types of wildlife hazard management techniques used in airports
    • Brief look into the potential systems which may be used in airport wildlife hazard management in the future
