Biography: Dr. Jakob Funkenstein is an aviation industry professional with over three decades of experience spanning commercial aviation, advanced air mobility, and higher education. He currently serves as Professor of Aviation Management at IU Internationale Hochschule in Germany, where he led the development and accreditation of the Aviation Management program and teaches courses such as Airline and Air Cargo Management, Aviation Policy, Sustainability in Aviation and Urban Air Mobility. In parallel, he is an advisor to and founder of several startups in the AAM sector.Dr. Funkenstein has held senior leadership roles at Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer, supporting aircraft sales, market forecasting, sustainability initiatives, and regional strategy. His work bridges traditional commercial aviation and emerging EVTOL and autonomous mobility ecosystems. He holds a Doctorate from Universität Kassel, is an FAA-licensed private pilot, and brings a practitioner-oriented, systems-level perspective with a healthy dose of realism to the future of advanced air mobility. |
