Katherine Moran
Biography:

Dr. Moran has been with Embry-Riddle since 1995 and has served in the capacity of Aeronautics Department Chair, Western Region Dean of Academic Affairs, Program Chair MS Occupational Safety Management, Program Chair MS Human Factors, and Full-Time Faculty.

Dr. Moran served in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard for 20 years, in the fields of F-15 Avionics, Aviation Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, and Aircraft Accident Investigation.

As a Trauma Epidemiologist for six years, Dr. Moran worked on a congressionally funded Alaska Interagency Aviation Safety Initiative with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Alaska Field Station, Division of Safety Research. Other members of this study included the Federal Aviation Administration, National Transportation Safety Board, National Weather Service, and University of Alaska Capstone Project. This initiative focused on Air Taxi and Commuter aviation crashes in Alaska, the highest category of occupational fatalities in the state.

As part of her role in CDC/NIOSH, Dr. Moran also investigated occupational fatalities in Alaska, including aircraft crash, commercial fishing, construction, and heli-logging. Dr. Moran's research has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, including the American Journal of Epidemiology, the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, and Aviation, Space, and Environmental Medicine Journal. She has also co-authored a NIOSH publication.

Dr. Moran served as Chair of the Alaska Federal Safety and Health Council and has been an active member of the Aerospace Medical Association, the Denali Safety Council, the Aircraft Owner and Pilot's Association, the Royal Aeronautical Society, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology. Dr. Moran has lectured/presented at such venues as the Federal Safety and Health Council, the American Society of Safety Engineers, Alaska Air Carrier's Association, and the Alaskan Airmen's Association.
