Course Detail: MGM-3000 - SMS Basics for Public Service Aviation [MGM 3000]
Overview
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's (ERAU) Safety Management Systems (SMS) Basics for Public Service Aviation is designed for public service aviation personnel such as supervisors and new unit safety officers seeking an overview on safety management theory and the basic essentials needed to establish and sustain a safety program. Public service aviation missions are used as examples to illustrate the principles of aviation safety management. This eight-week course covers the basic concepts of SMS and associated components such as definitions of proactive versus reactive safety management, risk/hazard analysis, error definition, assessment and detection, human factors, safety modeling techniques and other safety management tools.
This course awards 3 Continuing Education Units (CEU) upon completion.
This course is one of five courses that may be taken individually or toward satisfaction of Embry-Riddle's Aviation Risk Management professional education certificate requirements.

Course Information
This is an online asynchronous instructor facilitated course with weekly modules and assignments, but no scheduled meeting times. Students should plan to spend approximately 10-15 hours per week working through the course. Coursework is web-based with no additional software required, although a reliable internet connection is recommended. All courses open 48 business hours in advance of each start date, and must be completed by their scheduled end dates. Digital certificates are available upon successful completion of individual courses. Printed certificates are mailed only upon completion of a full certificate program.
