SORA is an important risk-based mitigation framework which allows the UAS-operator to tailor-make a risk assessment. It can be used to apply for an operational authorization in the Specific category. This Certificate course taught by Michael Maes, Accountable Manager at EuroUSC-Benelux, is designed for individuals with knowledge of UAS-operations, especially pilots who hold an Open category A2 certificate or who aim to operate in the Specific category. Students will learn how to correctly estimate the level of detail one needs to provide a mitigation measure or evidence within a SORA application approved by the CAA. Applicable standards and regulations are: EU 2019/947 and JARUS SORA v2.

After the building blocks of the SORA framework have been established, the students perform exercises in order to correctly calculate and estimate ground risk, air risk and its mitigating measures.

Members of the Unmanned Aviation Association (UAV DACH e.V.) and Joint European Drone Association (JEDA) receive a discount on the course fee (see below).

Learning Objectives and Outcomes:

• Draft a SORA application that will allow students to be considered for the operational authorization by the CAA.

• Understand the SORA framework as developed by JARUS and currently implemented by EASA
• Correctly define the Air Risk Class and Ground Risk Class and apply mitigations to the intrinsic scores
• Correctly define the level of evidence necessary to provide to the CAA in order to support mitigations
• Identify and use Tactical Mitigations Performance Requirements (TMPR), Specific Assurance and Integrity Levels (SAIL), Operational Safety Objectives (OSO)
