Have you ever wondered why African Americans still have the lowest life expectancy and more health problems than a majority of other ethnic and health disparity groups in the United States? This module will not only answer these questions but it will also introduce you and walk you through the following issues such as: (a) Uncovering the early history of public health and medical issues associated with African Americans; (b) Discovering the relationship between African American cultural values, beliefs and patterns with their health status and outcomes; (c) Investigating the top ten causes of mortality and morbidity among African Americans from a comprehensive, holistic perspective; and (d) Developing culturally competent prevention strategies for specific African American populations in the United States.
