This is the second of two modules addressing evidence based strategies for the treatment of sexual trauma. This lesson will address relational approaches to sexual trauma, primarily Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy. Participants will consider attachment theory as a useful framework for conceptualizing childhood or adult sexual trauma as well as explore Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT) for treating trauma. Specifics of addressing and treating sexual health for an individual or couple will be included. This module will provide you with key terms associated with post-modern therapies, a brief timeline pertaining to the creation of post-modern therapies, and several post-modern therapy approaches including: the feminist model, the narrative model, and solution focused therapy. This module discusses best practice strategies for some of the more common areas where ethics may be breached. Suggestions for avoiding ethical violations and prevailing ethical standards to deal with various dilemmas are presented. This module contextualizes military marriages, details criteria for diagnosing PTSD, and outlines military factors that increase likelihood of PTSD. This module also discusses psychosocial factors common in military marriages, such as secondary stress, and relationships between physical, psychological, and social health risks for military couples. The module ends with applications for working with these couples.

This module includes historical and theoretical background, brief assessment and treatment techniques, and resources for the public and professionals. More specifically, the history of family therapy and systems and cybernetic theory are initially presented. Following this is a discussion of the family life cycle and brief family system assessment. This module prepares students to become familiar with the historical development of Contextual Family Therapy and its application. Included here are discussions of the four key dimensions of Contextual Family Therapy along with introductions to the concepts of relational ethics as well as obligations and entitlements. This module was designed to give a brief introduction to family systems theory. It will cover the historical groundwork of Systems Theory as well as its development into family systems theory. Information on the basic assumptions as well as the main concepts and terminology will be introduced.
