In each class this semester, we will review and focus on a specific grammar point and vocabulary list and then practice them while speaking in French. The cost of the class covers the provided workbook called French in 10 minutes a day which also includes a digital download for practice at home. In this class, facilitated by the Whichard Distinguished Visiting Professor, we will discuss Choctaw author LeAnne Howe's time-traveling and award-winning novel, Shell Shaker. We will examine themes, such as matrilineality in southeastern native cultures, contemporary issues facing tribes, and the question of what makes a novel southern.

This course will take you through the basics of Facebook including: A brief overview of Facebook, adding and changing photos/videos, searching for people you may know, following pages, privacy settings and more. Note: Attendees will need an active email address that you have access to (one email address per person) and/or an already established Facebook account. This short course builds on a familiarity with the Italian language. Emphasis is on Italian reading, listening comprehension, and speaking for those who have completed the Lifelong Learning course, "Introduction to Italy and Conversational Italian." A goal of the course is to increase ability to navigate and communicate in Italian when visiting Italy.

UNC Wilmington Creative Writing Professor Philip Gerard is the 2019 North Carolina Award for Literature recipient. We will discuss his novel Cape Fear Rising (NOT to be confused with the movie Cape Fear, which is based on a whole different novel). Students will be expected to read the novel before class.

Our homes are a system that works like the body, where all parts interact together for a common purpose. In this interactive course, you will learn how your home's performance affects your comfort and your wallet, and how to calculate energy items throughout your home. Special information will be provided on building science-related issues for healthy living, such as the causes and remedies for wet crawl spaces.

David will take you on a sessions on some of the trips I've undertaken to explore our world. The sessions will be on Antarctica, Israel, the Amazon River, and Alaska. Each session will consist of pictures, discussion of travel arrangements, what needs to be done prior to beginning a trip, what needs to be done at the end of the trip, and suggestions on how to really enjoy a trip outside the continental United States. Further discussion will include such topics as: how much clothing to take, how much cash to take, how mobile do you need to be, are there concerns with drinking water and local food, and addressing other questions the class might have.

Beginning in 2020, photo IDs will be required for voting both in person and by absentee ballot. Pitt County's Board of Elections chair will explain the new requirement, including what photos are approved, how to obtain a photo ID if needed, what to do if you have lost your photo ID at the time of voting, how perceived differences of the photos presented and the person presenting will be addressed, who may be exempt, and how absentee voting will work with the new requirements.

Vermiculture or worm farming has many benefits. It is very inexpensive, uses recycled ingredients and helps you grow healthy plants and vegetables. Worm castings or waste is a nutrient-rich, natural fertilizer and soil conditioner. Worms can eat and break down many times their weight in organic materials like apple and banana peels, kitchen waste, and egg shells. Worm bins take up little space and can be kept in or outdoors year round. When properly maintained, they do not smell. In this course, you will learn how to create your own worm farm.
