DESCRIPTION:Event Description:\n\nMedical Anthropology: Understanding Health Issues from a Comprehensive Perspective I \n\n
Course Description
Have you ever wondered why our American public health and medical systems view and approach health and medical issues a certain way? This module will not only answer this question but it will also introduce you and walk you through the following issues such as: - (a) Examining how the field of medical anthropology connects with the fields of medicine, public health, allied health, nursing and health education
- (b) Investigating historically our biological and cultural adaptation patterns to specific diseases
- (c) Discovering how our American health cultural perspective influences how we diagnose and treat major diseases in the United States
- (d) Reviewing how ethnic populations adapt to our American public health and medical systems
- (e) Understanding how other countries may view public health and medical issues differently.
Topics here include an introduction and overview of the course, an introduction to medical anthropology, chronic and degenerative diseases, and strategies for applied medical anthropological health care research.
