Course Detail: JEANMILLS - Jean Mills Health Symposium
This one-day symposium is open to community residents and leaders, faith-based organizations, allied health and public health providers, nurses, dentists and oral health providers, physicians, other health care providers, ECU faculty/staff/students, and members of the general public.

THEME
In 2017 Jean Elaine Mills Annual Health Symposium will build synergies between community residents, community organizations and ECU faculty and students, focusing on minority health and community/campus partnerships as a vehicle to reduce health disparities. Participants will be challenged to address the need for health care providers to better reflect the diversity of the communities they serve and effective ways to meet that need. Through presentations and interactive sessions, the issue of diversifying our student body of future physicians, nurses, dentists, allied health professionals, and others in the health care workforce will be addressed as will the recruitment and retention of a diverse academic and clinical faculty to support this initiative.

GOALS
To provide a forum for discussing issues impacting the diversity of healthcare professionals, primarily in eastern North Carolina. Propose effective methods for recruiting and retaining a diverse clinical and academic faculty; improving minority access to professional healthcare programs; and diversifying the healthcare workforce, especially in underserved communities. Build a network of individuals and organizations focused on assisting these efforts.
