Course Detail: COETFALITERACY - Literacy Education

Course Description

This online, asynchronous, modular course is designed to be completed in 8 weeks. Each week students will view a mini-lecture, read pertinent professional materials, engage in a related activity, and then take a quiz. Students will learn literacy related content including: the development of reading skills,methods used to support literacy learning in a variety of classroom settings,materials used in teaching literacy, strategies for understanding and instruction, and assessments to inform literacy instruction.

Instructor Bio

Ms. Tanya Cannon is a teaching instructor in the Literacy Studies, English Education and History Education Department located in the College of Education at East Carolina University (ECU). She completed both her bachelor's and master's degrees at ECU.  She served as a classroom teacher, literacy coach, and mentor teacher with Pitt County Schools prior to returning to her alma mater to advise and teach pre-service teachers. She has co-authored two professional journal articles and currently serves as the Undergraduate Program Area Coordinator of the Reading Education Program Area.  Some of her hobbies include boating, gardening, scrap booking, and walking. Also, she loves the beach. She currently resides in Greenville with her husband and three children. You can reach her at cannonta@ecu.edu
