Course Detail: LLPTENC - The Tuscarora of Eastern North Carolina

From CE 1400-1700, the Tuscarora tribe of the Haudenosaunee nation was a dominant force in what would become eastern North Carolina. This program will consider the history and culture of the Tuscarora tribe--its origins, its history, its folkways--and the series of events that led to a mass migration of tribe members to upstate New York in the eighteenth century, The program will highlight the legacy of the Tuscarora language on the region and the tribe's response to European settlement on the formation of the Carolina colony. The program will also examine Tuscarora agriculture, noting especially the plants that had profound impact on the tribe's viability.
