Course Detail: OIEDHON - ECU Honors Seminar in Economic Development

This seminar is a ½ day seminar designed for volunteer leaders who wish to have a more in depth understanding of the dynamics of place-based economic development in order to make better choices,evaluate decisions, and set priorities.

This seminar will allow volunteer leaders to:
- Demonstrate an awareness of key terms and concepts related to economic development
- Describe the base economy, market area,traded clusters, and supply chains
- Determine the concepts and strategies most applicable to their community needs
- Understand the difference between economic growth and economic development
- Understand the importance of the Triple Helix approach to economic development
- Articulate realistic goals for their community

Who Should Attend

This seminar is intended for volunteers, community leaders, elected officials, and citizens who are interested in learning more about place-based economic development. Each participants will receive a certificate of completion from ECU. The convening organization will be eligible for designation as an ECU Economic Development Partner.

Cancellation Policy


Requests for refunds must be made in writing to the Office of Continuing Studies at cpe@ecu.edu. Requests received prior to the start of the online course/program will be eligible for a 75% refund. Requests received no later than one week after the start of the online course/program will be eligible for a 50% refund. Those received after the first week will not receive a refund.
