Biography:

Reed McNames is a dedicated chess coach, tournament player, and certified US ChessFederation (USCF) Tournament Director. With over 13 years of playingexperience, she is ranked among the top 10 female blitz players in Oregon(current members) as recognized by the US Chess Federation ratings list.

She currently teaches for an after-school program, introducing children tochess while fostering strategic thinking, patience, and confidence. Inaddition, she works with private students - both children and adults, tailoringlessons to their individual goals.

Reed stays active in the chess community, playing both competitively andcasually to sharpen her skills and bring fresh insights to her teaching.Through engaging lessons and a student-centered approach, she strives to makechess both educational and enjoyable, helping each player grow at their ownpace.


Classes by this instructor


Chess players are taught to think critically, plan their moves, and execute their strategy. The skills learned in this online course will serve players for life. Learn the fundamentals of chess, taught by an experienced chess coach. Learning goals include: familiarizing students with the elements of chess (piece names, values, and movements), learning opening principles, middlegame strategy, and basic endgames. Class is taught via Zoom and utilizes Lichess.org for live games and tutorials.
