Carolyn Parker
Biography: Carolyn Parker is a dedicated art teacher who teaches adult and youth art classes with Community Education, as well as with degree-seeking students at COCC. A graduate of the University of Washington and a lifelong student of the Arts, Carolyn also attended school in New Zealand and obtained a Certificate in Digital Illustration from COCC. She is involved in the greater Central Oregon community and uses the beautiful backdrop of the High Desert for her professional and personal adventures in art and her other love: exercise. Carolyn is also an instructor of Yoga and Pilates!

Art: Manga Drawing Youth Camp
In this camp, students will experience the exciting field of Manga drawing, an immersive storytelling style made popular in Japanese comics. Students will learn the basics of illustration in the Manga style, and will have time to practice sketching people, facial features, hair, clothing, gesture and facial expression, as well as learning inking and color techniques. Principles of drawing and using colored pencils will be utilized. At the end of the camp, students will have created their own Manga character! No experience necessary in drawing to join the fun! All materials provided. For students ages 10-15.

In this creative, hands-on camp, students will tune into their observational skills by slowing down, looking closely and learning to capture the beauty and detail of the natural world through drawing, writing and observing! From the beauty of the bark of a Ponderosa Pine, to the curve of the wing of a Red-tailed Hawk, campers will explore techniques in sketching and descriptive writing, learning to record field notes like scientists and artists alike. All materials provided. Ages 10-15.

Art: Stop Motion Animation Youth Camp
Stop motion animation brings static objects to life on screen with an iPad and a variety of mixed media arts. The attitude of the Stop Motion Animation Youth Camp: if you can dream it, you can do it! Animation campers will explore story planning, set design, character development and prop-making using paper, clay, drawings and other materials. Students will add cool themes, titles, sound effects and other digital effects to give the movies a unique look and feel. Campers will apply their new knowledge to craft their own stories and create an animated scene as their project. Each student must bring their own iPad with the Stop Motion Studio Pro app already downloaded ($5.99). Ages 10-15.

Art: Elements of Artistic Expression Youth Camp
Students are introduced to the elements of art in this hands-on camp that emphasizes artistic discovery. A variety of mediums are introduced, and the concepts of line, shape, color, texture, form, space, and value are explored in this immersion of fun and learning. This camp encourages curiosity, exploration and personal style as students gain confidence in their artistic abilities. All materials provided. Ages 10-15.
