Instructor: Carolyn Parker

Biography: Carolyn Parker is a dedicated art teacher who teaches adult and youth art classes with Community Education, as well as with degree-seeking students at COCC. A graduate of the University of Washington and a lifelong student of the Arts, Carolyn also attended school in New Zealand and obtained a Certificate in Digital Illustration from COCC. She is involved in the greater Central Oregon community and uses the beautiful backdrop of the High Desert for her professional and personal adventures in art and her other love: exercise. Carolyn is also an instructor of Yoga and Pilates!

Figure Drawing Open Lab

Join a welcoming community of artists from beginners exploring figure drawing for the first time to experienced painters and draftspeople while developing your skills in drawing and painting the human figure. Working in a structured studio environment with both nude and clothed male and female models, you'll have the chance to work with poses ranging 1-20 minutes in length, with breaks to connect with other students, receive feedback on your work, and share ideas. There are no formal critiques, allowing you to work at your own pace in a relaxed, encouraging atmosphere. Please bring your own supplies and a portable easel or drawing board. The course fee covers the model fees.

Drawing: Sketching Central Oregon Trees

Central Oregon is surrounded by natural beauty, including a variety of trees common in the High Desert. From towering Ponderosa pines and aromatic Junipers to beautiful quaking Aspen, there's loads to observe and capture in our own backyard. This class focuses on shape, texture, foliage and creating depth through light and shadow, and is appropriate for the beginning sketcher or those looking to add to their existing skillset.

Feathered Forms is a hands-on drawing class designed to demystify the complex shapes of avian subjects. You'll learn to look beyond the intricate details of feathers and focus on the fundamental proportions, posture and underlying structure that give birds their unique character.
