Biography: Deb Merskin, Ph.D. is a lifelong advocate forcultivating both intellectual and physical well-being. A Professor Emerit fromthe University of Oregon's School of Journalism and Communication, she servedon the faculty from 1993 until her retirement in 2021. Her academic researchcenters on how mass media portray vulnerable groups, focusing on animals inpopular culture and the psychological processes behind perspective taking. Sheis the author of four books and numerous scholarly articles in these areas. Complementing her academic pursuitsis a deep commitment to physical health and mindful movement. Deb has practicedyoga for over 20 years and holds a 200-hour RYT from Sarah Joy Marsh inPortland, a 40-hour Ashtanga teaching certification from David Swenson, and a100-hour Anusara yoga immersion. She is certified to teach Better Bones &Balance. Her lifelong interest in movement includes a background in dance andaerobics, and she enjoys hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing. Debrelocated from Eugene to Central Oregon in 2019, where she continuesintegrating scholarship and fitness into a vibrant, holistic lifestyle. |
