Carolyn Parker
Biography: Carolyn Parker, an instructor for the Health and Human Performance Department at COCC since 2016, teaching the Yoga and Pilates programs for HHPA, is also a dedicated art teacher. She teaches art for adults and youth in the Community Education program at COCC. A graduate of the University of Washington and a lifelong student of the Arts, attending school abroad in New Zealand and now working toward a new notch on her belt, at COCC, by obtaining a Certificate in Digital Illustration. At COCC continuing education, she leads adults in multi-week courses including Figure Drawing and Coloring with Copic Markers, in addition to providing fun and learning for youth in art camps including, Manga Drawing and Stop Motion Animation. She is involved in the greater Central Oregon community and uses the beautiful backdrop of the High Desert for her professional and personal adventures in art and exercise.

Learn to use Japanese copic markers! This class is an introduction to alcohol-based copic markers and how they blend to create beautiful color artwork. You will learn what copic markers are, what the letters and numbers on the markers mean, and how copic markers are different from other kinds of markers. You will also get plenty of hands-on time to practice copic art techniques like blending, shading and layering, using multiliners, and drawing on different kinds of paper. During class, you will create a piece of copic artwork using what you have learned. Materials are required for this course. Elements of Art Youth Camp: Intermediate Level
With an emphasis on artistic discovery, students engage in a variety of mediums in this intermediate level art camp. Students should have a good understanding of the elements of art before attending this camp as it builds upon existing skills. The concepts of line, shape, color, texture, form, space, and value are emphasized in this immersion of fun and learning. Taught by dedicated Community Education art instructor, Carolyn Parker, who teaches a variety of adult and youth classes for COCC. Ages 10-15.

Manga Drawing Art Youth Camp
In this camp, students will experience the exciting field of Manga drawing, an immersive storytelling style made popular in Japanese comics. Students will learn the basics of illustration in the Manga style, and will have time to practice sketching people, facial features, hair, clothing, gesture, and facial expression, as well as learning inking and color techniques. Principles of drawing and using colored pencils will be utilized. At the end of the camp, students will have created their own Manga character! No experience necessary in drawing to join the fun! All materials provided. For students ages 10-15.
