DESCRIPTION:Event Description:\n\nMindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)\n\nThis course is a scientifically researched program designed to introduce fundamental mindfulness and meditation training for reducing stress, and bringing greater resilience, life balance, and well-being into everyday life.<div>&lt;br&gt;&nbsp; &nbsp;<br>The program consists of eight weekly sessions with an additional silent retreat day. It is a practical yet also intensive approach that trains attention, allowing people to develop more awareness and choices in their daily lives.</div><div>&lt;br&gt;&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>Instructor, Kim Young, is a qualified MBSR teacher and certified yoga instructor. Her training includes intensive practice with Solterreno Academy in Spain, Mindful Schools (USA), Mindfulness Thailand, Discovering Mindfulness, David Treleaven Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness, and Mindfulness in Schools Project (UK). Kim has also completed Mindful Self-Compassion courses and integrates this into her work.</div><div>&lt;br&gt;&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>The program includes:<br><ul><li>Guided mindfulness meditations</li><li>Body awareness through gentle stretching, yoga and movement</li><li>Group discussions and inquiry</li><li>Exploration of the patterns of thoughts, behaviors, feelings, and actions</li><li>Investigating brain research and stress responses</li><li>Daily home practice</li><li>Links to guided audio recordings</li><li>Resources for further development of mindful practices</li></ul></div>\n\nClass is on Mondays from 5:30pm - 7:30pm in BEC 151 starting September 21 and ending November 9. The silent retreat is on Saturday, October 31 at an off-site location. Optional orientation is on Monday, September 14 in BEC 151 from 5:30pm - 6:30pm. Details regarding the silent retreat on October 31 will be provided at a later date. <br>Certificates of Completion are available for Employee Wellness Programs. <br>Because of the nature of the MBSR course, students should be prepared to commit to:<br><ul><li>Weekly class attendance</li><li>Home practice 30-45 minutes each day</li><li>&nbsp;Participating in the one day silent retreat</li></ul>\n\nEvent Schedule:\n\nClass is on Mondays from 5:30pm - 7:30pm in BEC 151 starting September 21 and ending November 9.
