Course Description: Growing Gardens for Food and Fun Youth Camp

Do you enjoy being outside, turning over rocks, digging into soil, and studying the plants around you? Do you care about growing food in sustainable ways? Then you will be ready to start your own garden and learn how to care for it in this camp! Become a mini-master gardener by learning different ways to plant seeds, saving them from fruits and vegetables, creating habitat for vital pollinating insects and birds, and exploring the soil ecosystem that supports our gardens. Seeds, soils, insects, and plant care will be key topics that are covered, as well as how to be a gardener in the Central Oregon climate. Participants will take away a greater understanding of how to start and care for a garden, as well as the vital relationships between seeds, soil, and ecosystem health. They will engage in activities that instruct them on how to create pollinator habitat, save seeds, and plant seeds using different methods. They will also learn strategies for gardening that they can replicate at home and in their communities. For students aged 10-14.
