Course Detail: Construction Training Core Skills & Methods
This course provides technical, hands-on training and the opportunity to master basic skills common to residential and commercial construction. Students will learn and use a set of essential core skills necessary for residential and commercial construction along with more in-depth information on specific topics and trades. Core skills include basic construction math, common hand and power tool use and safety, basic blueprint and schedule reading, career and interpersonal skills. This class will focus on core skills related to the construction of the exterior of a building (also known as a building envelope) with emphasis on building wrap, flashing and membranes, windows and exterior doors, siding, and their related installation methods. Guest instructors from the area's leading contractors and/or material suppliers will provide valuable insight regarding the latest trends in installation methods and materials. No previous construction training required. NOTE: Students must be 18 years of age to register.
