Micro Course Information: GASR120 - Understanding Diversity to Build Empathy

"Diversity and Inclusion" is a hot topic in many organizations, but oftentimes it is difficult to move "beyond the buzz words" to action that helps individuals gain a deeper understanding of themselves and of the people with whom they work. In this micro course, you will explore factors that affect your conscious and unconscious thoughts and develop strategies for building empathy and reducing bias in your workplace.

  • - Assess your own values and attitudes concerning various types of human diversity
  • - Examine the impact of prejudice, discrimination, and bias in professional settings and in society
  • Develop strategies for working with human diversity in your own workplace

Micro Course Outline:

Unit 2 - Explore concrete examples of ways to work against racism, prejudice, discrimination, and oppression in society and the workplace.

Unit 3 - Discuss bias, stereotypes, discrimination, and microaggressions and how to address these issues in the workplace.
