Title: Veterinary Science Summer Academy

Summer Academy

TheSummer Academy is a high school pre-college program for rising grades 9-12. Theprogram is held as two one-week intensives in June and July. Courses at taughtby Centenary University Professors. Select programs taught by industryprofessionals.

The Structure

Each program offers overnight accommodations inair-conditioned residence halls with three meals and evening activities.Commuters are provided lunch daily and may also sign up for a dinner plan ifthey intend to stay for evening activities. Click here to see the schedule and for more information about theprograms offered. Courses are held Monday through Friday from 9-4pm, withorientation on Sunday for both commuters and residential students. Residentialstudents arrive on Sunday and depart on Saturday morning. Evening activitiesbegin after dinner at 7pm. Commuters are welcome and encouraged to attend.Students staying for multiple weeks have the option of going home for theweekend or staying on campus and attending a student selected field trip to anamusement or water park.

Veterinary Science Program

Centenary University is home to one of the topequestrian programs in the nation! Students will study vet science and getshands-on experience at the equestrian center with animal care, feeding, andequine physical exams.

Morning session: In-class learning on campus featuring hands-on academic modules and adiscussion of anatomy, basic first aid, alternative therapies, equinenutrition, digestive tract, and more (no quizzes ,tests, or examinations).

Afternoon session: Hands-on learning atCentenary's Equestrian Center featuring animal handling/care/feeding, equinephysical exams, and demonstrations on MagnaWave, massage/body work, KT taping, acupuncture/chiropracticwork, nutrition, and the equine GI tract.

-alternative therapies (massage, chiropractic/acupuncture/magnawave)

Afternoon session - Equestrian Center

Instructor: 

Jessica Sosnovik

 

Jessica is currently an assistant professor of equine studies at Centenary University. She has both a BS in Equine Studies with a concentration in equine science and biology minor (2015), and a Master of Art in Leadership and Public Administration (2020) from Centenary University. Jessica has worked as an equine veterinary assistant, veterinary office manager, and adjunct faculty member. Jessica is also a Certified Veterinary Technician and a Certified MagnaWave Practitioner.

Schedule: Overnight students arrive on Sunday 7/21/24 at noon. Opening meeting for all on Sunday. Courses run 9am-4pm Monday-Friday with evening activities (optional for commuters) ending at 9pm. Pickup Saturday morning 7/27/24 at 12pm. See the detailed schedule on Summer Academy webpage.
